In 2013 the Foundation Meeting published a Social Report with the intention of documenting the many activities carried out within the Meeting. Data from the first edition in 1980, in 1993, in 2003 – when the event moved to the Rimini exhibition halls – and 2013 were compared.

Five years later, in 2018, a discussion that was never really interrupted was resumed. The starting reference goes to Standard UNI ISO 26000:2010 Guidance on Social Responsibility which offers us a link with the previous experience and, at the same time, a solid base on which to build the path towards sustainability that the Rimini Meeting, with the support of Conai and Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), proposes to tackle in a more structured and prospective way.

The standard states that a predominant objective of an organization’s corporate social responsibility should be to contribute to sustainable development, through an integrated approach to the three dimensions at its basis (environmental, social and economic).

As a major event, the Meeting is aware that the main negative impact for which it is responsible is the environment, and because of this awareness it has decided to account for it through this first document, which we ambitiously call the Sustainability Plan of the Meeting.

In this regard, we are helped by another standard, UNI ISO 20121:2013, Management Systems for Sustainable Events – Requirements and guidelines for use, which on the other hand represents our point of reference in processing the plan and defining the path to be followed.

It is therefore a voluntary standard defining the standards with which to comply in order to certify one’s event as environmentally, socially and economically sustainable in the design, management and implementation phases.
