Professor of Industrial Bioengineering at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa, from 2007 to 2013 she was also Rector and Director for two terms. She is also a Founding Partner of IUVO SrL, Spin-off of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna active in the field of wearable robotics for biomedical and industrial applications.
She is a member of the IEEE Society of Engineering in Medicine and Biology (EMB), the IEEE Society of Robotics and Automation (R&A) and since 2017 she is President of the National Group Association of Bioengineering (formerly Group).
From 2013 to 2018 she was a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Foreign and European Affairs Committee and from 2013 to 2014 Minister of Education, University and Research.
