Branciaroli Franco
FRANCO BRANCIAROLI, born in Milan in 1947, has been recognized since he was very young as one of the greatest talents of Italian theater. At the beginning he worked with Chéreau at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, in various shows with Aldo Trionfo at the Stabile in Turin – having his launch as the protagonist in Nerone è morto by Miklos Hubay, with Wanda Osiris – and with Carmelo Bene, in a historic edition of Romeo and Juliet. He met Luca Ronconi at the Laboratorio in Prato, and he will always recognize him as his master, crossing paths with him at various moments in his career, including in Lolita in 2001, where he was Humbert Humbert. Another meeting that marked his path was with Giovanni Testori, who also dedicated a “Branciatrilogia” to Branciaroli, and who interpreted a historic edition of In exitu at the central station in Milan with him. In the cinema he works with Michelangelo Antonioni, Mikos Jancso and Tinto Brass, and more recently with Cristina Comencini and others. He has often tackled Shakespeare’s texts, both as an actor and as a director, in particular the staging of Othello directed by Gabriele Lavia with Umberto Orsini in the role of Iago. Among the numerous shows that followed, which earned him prizes and awards, he recently created a partnership with Umberto Orsini, with whom he performed Pour un oui ou pour un non by Nathalie Sarraoute, directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi, and Ragazzi irresistibili by Neil Simon, directed by Massimo Popolizio, currently on tour.
