POPE FRANCIS, MERCY, AND MISSION

Testifying to mercy towards all, particularly the distant and marginalized, is a hallmark of Pope Francis’s pontificate. Never before has the announcement of God, who always waits to welcome us, held such great missionary significance. The Church exists to enable today’s women and men to re-experience the encounters narrated in the Gospel. This is the perspective from which to read Francis’s teachings, words, and gestures, aided by stories from those on the front lines, such as in Florida’s death row and those rescuing human trafficking victims.
