Faith, music and work
‘For some he is the greatest; for all he remains one of the major composers of polyphonic music. We are referring to Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina: Johannes Petraloysius Praenestinus (1525-1594). The Meeting dedicated an exhibition to the great musician, active in rome in the second half of the 16th century, during the celebrations for the fourth centenary of his death. The composer, who gained the title of “papal composer” and the appellation “princeps musicae”, devoted his whole life to the edification of himself and others using the means which had been entrusted to him: music. The exhibition reproduces precious manuscripts and texts which witness the activity of the artist in the context of the environment which favoured the birth of new musical forms.’
