Scientific Director of the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute of Infectious Diseases IRCCS in Rome; since 2009 he has been Director of the WHO Cooperation Center for clinical management, diagnosis, response and education on highly infectious diseases at INMI.
He has held positions in numerous national bodies and international institutions in the field of health care. Over the past 10 years he has been coordinating several EU-funded projects in the fields of emerging and re-emerging infections, biosecurity, preparedness and response to pandemics.
He is scientific coordinator in international activities financed by the Italian Cooperation in foreign countries on emerging pathogens, HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
